A small workshop,
long patience.
DWELL began in a joinery in Tallahassee, Florida, with one table, a borrowed lathe and a rule that has not changed: draw it, mock it up in pine, live with it for a month, then make it properly.
Furniture for
a slower room.
“We are not interested in the new. We are interested in the kept.”
The workshop started because of a table. Elin had inherited one from her grandmother — scarred, repaired twice, still square — and could not find anything made with the same intention. So she built one, badly, and then built another.
Ten years later the method is unchanged. Drawings are made at full scale in the Tallahassee studio, then a pine mock-up is lived with for a month before anything is cut in oak. We work with three family workshops: joinery in Tallahassee, rattan and weaving in Porto, stoneware in Kyoto.
Nothing is made in quantities that require a discount. When a piece sells out it stays sold out until the next winter, and the drawing goes into the archive — ninety-six of them now, all still repairable.

held since 2016.
They are not marketing. They are the reason the collection is small.
Honest materials
Solid oak, never veneer. Stoneware, not resin. Linen that creases, because linen that does not is not linen.
Repair over replace
Covers unbutton, joints are wedged, glazes can be re-fired. We keep the jigs for every piece we have ever made.
Small batches
Twenty to forty of each piece, then the workshop moves on. Nothing is destroyed at the end of a season.
The archive.
One table, one lathe
Elin Dwell rents a corner of a joinery in Tallahassee and makes the first Norr table for her own kitchen.
The Porto weaving
A family workshop outside Porto begins weaving the Rana pendant. The double weave takes three years to get right.
Repair, don't replace
The repair service opens: covers, joints, glazes. Every piece sold since 2016 is eligible, for as long as we exist.
The showroom opens
A small showroom opens beside the bench for samples and fittings. The collection stays at twelve pieces, by choice.
Winter, Workshop N°7
Ninety-six drawings in the archive, three workshops, and the same rule about hurry.
“I would rather make one table a family keeps for thirty years than thirty they leave behind.”Elin Dwell — Founder & Maker
Trained as a cabinetmaker in Denmark and a furniture designer in Helsinki, Elin still cuts the first pine mock-up of every collection herself, and still signs the underside of the prototype.
